It’s Spring, like the season then, twelve years ago. Time flies, like a bird. On this day, twelve years ago, I created this blog and I gave it a name: Mackneen,The Algerian Goldfinch.
On that day I went to Algiers for a visit to my mother, and to my parents house situated in the suburbs in the heights of Algiers, at a bird fly from there.
Circumstances were, this small leafy town where I spent my childhood was known for its name and the goldfinch, and it became famous for it forests, vineyards, and orchards where it became a gateway for picnicking to the city dwellers and most of all for poachers and bird breeding and aficionados for bird pets. The Algerian Goldfinch, El Mackneen, was a title of a song that was written by El Baji, a Chaâbi singer and song writer that he wrote in prison during the time of war for the Independence of Algeria when it was a French colony. The song became like an anthem and was all time song for the longest. This is for the title history.
So, a friend of mine who is an also aficionado for birdwatching, asked me to look for the species in the region, because it became rare to find in the field, since the savage urbanization had took over of the whole greenery around, and what once the natural habitat became an environment disaster and you can only find a goldfinch in a pet stores, and It was imported by smugglers and poachers from Spain and other countries around the Mediterranean.
Morality is, the bird is an endangered species, and since that event I made it a virtue for writing each time that permits, a post for any thing that is related to the it
So, it you have a caged bird, open the door of cage and let it fly away, or better ado, take it to the park zoo and set it free
